Weekly Flu Report

The record number of flu-related deaths in Arkansas increased by five last week, bringing the death toll from the current flu season to 210.

Since the Department of Health began tracking the deaths in 2000, this year breaks the previous record of 110 deaths recorded during the 2014-15 season.

Since October 1st, over 52,800 positive influenza tests have been reported by health care providers. In Week 13, 36 counties reported influenza cases. The majority of reports came in the listening area came from from Independence, Pulaski, White, Faulkner and Cleburne Counties.

The average school absenteeism rate last week was 5.9 percent among public schools.

The most recent deaths were all people age 45 or older.

Since October 1st, 59 facilities including 47 nursing homes have reported influenza outbreaks.   MORE
