Weekly ADH Flu Update


Nineteen more flu-related deaths were reported in Arkansas last week week, bringing the death toll from the current flu season to 159.

Arkansas Department of Health also reported that doctor’s office and emergency room visits by patients with flu-like symptoms declined last week, providing health officials with hope that the worst of the flu season is over.

Since October 1st, over 46,900 positive influenza tests have been reported to the Arkansas Department of Health online database by health care providers. Last week, 74 counties reported influenza cases. The majority of reports in our listening area came from Faulkner, Independence, Lonoke, Pulaski, Stone and White Counties.

The average school absenteeism rate last week was 7.4 percent among public schools.

Among the influenza-related deaths reported in Arkansas this flu season, 156 are among adult persons and three are pediatric deaths. The Center for Disease Control has reported a total of 84 pediatric deaths nationwide this season.

Since October 1st, 56 facilities including 46 nursing homes have reported influenza outbreaks.   MORE
