Traffic Stop Leads To Drug Charges

A White County man is charged with drug possession after a traffic stop in the Desha area.

Authorities say 32-year old Joshua Eli Carpenter, of Bald Knob, faces charges of possession of more than 2 grams of meth, but less than 10 grams, a class C felony.

Daily Guard reports according to a court affidavit, Independence County Deputy Justin Kirk was traveling west on McHue Road, near Brushy Road, when he observed a Jeep Cherokee cross the center line several times before turning onto Brushy Road, where he was able to make a traffic stop on the vehicle.

As he made contact with the driver, Chris Fitzpatrick, Kirk reportedly observed a passenger who apparently couldn’t “sit still.” That passenger was later identified as Joshua Eli Carpenter, 32, of Bald Knob.

When asked permission by Kirk, Carpenter agreed to a pocket search and during that process Kirk reportedly located a cigarette pack, which he opened, and found a plastic baggie containing a crystalline substance suspected to be methamphetamine, according to the affidavit.
