State Flu Death Toll At 125

Three more flu-related deaths have been reported in Arkansas since Sunday, raising the state toll from the current flu season to 125.

Over 38,000 positive influenza tests have been reported to the ADH online database by health care providers.

Among the deaths is a four-year old child, the youngest to have died from the flu this season and the third death of those under 18. The CDC has reported a total of 53 pediatric deaths nationwide this season.

The other two deaths reported earlier this week were between 25 and 44 years old, raising the total deaths in that age group to four. The other flu deaths reported this season include 16 people between the ages of 45 and 64; and 102 people over the age of 65.

The latest Arkansas weekly flu report states 73 counties in Arkansas reported influenza cases. The majority of reports in our listening area came from Faulkner, Independence, Lonoke and White Counties.

The average school absenteeism rate last week was 8.4 percent among public schools.

Since October 1, 2017, 50 facilities including 40 nursing homes have reported influenza outbreaks.
