Shooting Suspect Turns Himself In

Jessie Hutchins

A man accused of shooting someone in late March is now in jail awaiting a probable cause hearing.

According to Sharp County Sheriff’s authorities, 44-year old Jessie Leon Hutchins turned himself into authorities Saturday in connection with the March 29th shooting.

Sheriff’s deputies had been searching for Hutchins, who they say opened fire on another man, shooting him in the knees and buttocks.

The victim told deputies “Jessie raised the gun and fired a round striking [him] in the knees.”

When the man turned to run back to his truck, he said Hutchins shot him again in the buttocks.

The next day deputies obtained a search warrant for Hutchins home where they reported finding a spent 20-gauge shotgun shell, seven firearms, and numerous amounts of ammunition. Deputies also found a metal box containing syringes, baggies, a glass smoking device with residue, and a baggie containing a white crystalline substance.

A judge later issued a bench warrant for Hutchins arrest on suspicion of battery, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
