Searcy High EAST Hour Of Tech 2017

Searcy High

Each year, Searcy High School EAST students host an EAST Night Out event where they open the classroom to show off the emerging technology they use to solve community problems. They present projects they are working on and recruit community partners who might be resources or even clients for new projects.

On Saturday, December 9, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., in the Searcy High School Cafeteria,  SHS EAST will host an EAST “Day” Out – Hour of Tech to present their work and engage community members with technology demonstrations using the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset, 3D printing, and other cool tools! A few of the projects that will be featured are Searcy Miracle League Baseball, Unity Through Story, Classroom Emergency Go Bags, SHS Courtyard Makeover, and ULockIt Security.

The event will also include an opportunity for community members to participate in an Hour of Code. To honor the birthday of computing pioneer Admiral Grace Murray Hopper, Computer Science Education Week is celebrated worldwide December 4 – 10. Arkansas has been a leader in the effort to offer computer science courses to all students and Searcy High School was among the first schools to join the Governor’s initiative and offer new computer programming and computer science courses as electives.

During the Hour of Tech SHS EAST and Computer Science students will guide participants through fun, hands-on coding activities to earn certificates and recognition for completing an Hour of Code. Coders will join the ranks of Governor Asa Hutchinson, Bill Gates, Serena Williams, and Ashton Kutcher as experienced coders! If coding is not your thing, you can read a story for the Unity project or print a 3D model. All ages are invited. Refreshments will be served and door prizes will be given out every 30 minutes.
