Rockefeller Trust Gifts UA System $100 Million

The Winthrop Rockefeller Charitable Trust on Friday gifted $100 million to the University of Arkansas System to continue the UA Winthrop Rockefeller Institute.

The landmark announcement was made at a mid-morning press conference at the Rockefeller Institute on Petit Jean Mountain, part of the property owned by Rockefeller, the state’s 37th governor who served from 1967-1971.

After a battle with cancer, Rockefeller died in 1973 at the age of 60 and left an estate then valued at $67 million in his trust. Over the decades, the trust grew in assets and distributed more than $247 million in grants, mostly to Arkansas causes.    MORE
