Ribbon Cutting, Special Council Meeting

This morning sees a ribbon cutting at the new Searcy Swim Center.

The ceremony starts at 10:00am at the facility at 525 Recreation Way.

Prior to the ribbon cutting, the Searcy City Council will hold a Special Meeting at 9:30am at the Searcy Swim Center.

The Purpose is for the City Council to consider a resolution to authorize Mayor David Morris to apply for a grant from the Arkansas Department of Aeronautics.

The grant application will be for a 80%/20% grant agreement for total funds in the amount of $301,355.00 for runway repairs, crack and surface sealing and runway re-marking at the Searcy Municipal Airport.

A Resolution Authorizing the Mayor of the City of Searcy to Apply For a Grant From the Arkansas Department of Aeronautics on Behalf of the Searcy Airport Commission; And For Other Purposes

Be It Resolved By The City Council Of The City Of Searcy, To-Wit:

            Whereas, the City of Searcy owns certain real property operated by the Searcy Airport Commission upon which lie certain improvements comprising the Searcy Airport;

Whereas, the City of Searcy recognizes the need to provide for maintenance to the Searcy Airport, including proposed repairs for runway repairs, rack and surface sealing and runway re-marking and other matters associated with the Searcy Airport (the “Repairs); and

Whereas, the City of Searcy has been presented with a proposed grant for the Repairs from the Arkansas Department of Aeronautics (“ADA”) with such grant application to comprise an 80/20 matching grant in the amount of $301,355, or less, to aid and assist the City of Searcy and the Searcy Airport Commission for the Repairs (the “Grant Application”); and

Whereas, the City of Searcy recognizes that the public would be served by leveraging the funds available for the Repairs and that the proposed ADA grant provides for the means to do so.

Now, Therefore, be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Searcy, Arkansas, to-wit:

Section 1.        That the Mayor and City Clerk are authorized and directed to complete and execute the Grant Application and to take all necessary and further actions that may be determined to be necessary, in the sole and exclusive determination of the Mayor and City Clerk to make, execute and perform under the terms of the Grant Application.

Section 2.        In the event that the Grant Application is approved and funded, subject to applicable law concerning budgets and finances of cities of the first class in the State of Arkansas, the Chairman of the Searcy Airport Commission is authorized and directed to administer the proceeds received pursuant to the Grant Application.

Section 3.        The Mayor and City Clerk are authorized and directed to terminate any prior grant applications with ADA for the calendar year 2017 in connection with the 80/20 grant program.
