Multi-County Car Chase Ends In Arrest

A Lawrence County man is jailed after leading police on a three-county chase Saturday.

Newport police say 53-year-old Richard Dwayne Cobb, of Strawberry, was arrested after leading police on a chase through Jackson, Independence, and Lawrence Counties.

The incident began just before 1:30pm Saturday afternoon when Cobb was pulled over by Newport Police. Police discovered Cobb had an absconder warrant from Arkansas Community Corrections, and when the officer attempted to make contact with Cobb, he fled.

After an hour-long chase, Cobb drove his car down a field road in Lawrence County, jumped out of the car, ran through a wooded area, then through some nearby chicken houses, before finally being apprehended without incident.

Also involved in the chase were Arkansas Game an Fish officers, Arkansas State Police, Jackson County Sheriff’s Deputies, Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputies, Independence County Sheriff’s Deputies and Tuckerman Police officers.
