Mayflower Teacher Accused Of Sexual Assault

Jassica Kaplan

A first year Mayflower High School art teacher has been arrested on a sexual assault charge.

Authorities say 31-year old Jessica Kaplan faces a charge of first-degree sexual assault after her arrest yesterday.

Mayflower police announced it was investigating a report of “sexual contact” between a Mayflower High School teacher and a student.

On Monday, the School Resource Officer was informed about an incident which allegedly involved sexual contact between a Mayflower High School student and a teacher employed within the Mayflower School District.

Upon gathering further details from the reporting party, our School Resource Officer forwarded the case information to the Mayflower Police Departments’ Criminal Investigations Division. Upon their review of the provided information, a case file was created in reference to the reported incident and will be thereafter submitted to the Faulkner County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for review.

Mayflower Police Chief Robert Alcon says officials will release more information as details become available.

A Mayflower Police Department Facebook post states; “When further information becomes available and in which that information would not compromise or have the potential to compromise any portion of the case or its further investigation, it will be released when possible. We understand the legal process is sometimes uncomfortable and does not appear to be time efficient. But we have a duty to abide by all applicable laws and rules of criminal procedure when processing all matters of alleged criminal activity. We would appreciate the public’s patience during this time.”

Kaplan has worked as a visual arts instructor in the Mayflower School District for about three years.
