Mayflower Passes Sales Tax Increase

Out of approximately 1200 eligible registered voters in the City of Mayflower, only 86 cast ballots in the Special Election on a one half cent sales tax increase.

After all ballots were counted 45 voted for and 41 voted against.

The sales tax increase was proposed to better the city’s financial standing by building a reserve fund.

The city’s sales tax rate will now be 2.5%.

City officials expect the increase to generate about $16,000 each month specifically for the reserve fund.
