Softball Super Regional Finally Is Sunday

SEARCY – Game 3 of the Harding-Minnesota State NCAA Division II Softball Central Super Regional has been postponed until Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Harding Softball Field.

The game will resume in the bottom of the second inning with Harding leading 4-3. Minnesota State won the first game 1-0, and Harding won game two 3-2.

The winner of the game will advance to the NCAA Division II Softball Championship at the Moyer Sports Complex in Salem, Virginia, on May 25-29.

FRIDAY’S ACTION

SEARCY – No. 2 Harding scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning, defeated No. 6 Minnesota State 4-3 and forced a deciding game in the best-of-three NCAA Division II Central Super Regional. The loss snapped Minnesota State’s 28-game winning streak.

Harding (58-8) trailed 3-2 entering the seventh. Amanda Berdon led off the inning with a single to right center and moved to second on a wild pitch. Mackenzie Jones pushed her to third base with a sacrifice bunt. One out later, pinch hitter Lindsey Duncan singled up the middle to score Berdon with the tying run.

Duncan stole second and scored the go-ahead run when Courtney Derrick‘s ground ball got past the Minnesota State infield.

Harding senior Hannah Johnson (24-5) started and pitched six innings, allowing only four hits and two runs (one earned). She walked one and struck out four in earning the win. Freshman Autumn Humes earned her seventh save, working around a walk in the bottom of the seventh.

Coley Reis (35-3), had won her previous 24 decisions, but took the loss. She allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits with three walks and five strikeouts.

Minnesota State (58-7) got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning. Jess Meidl doubled and scored on an error.

Derrick tied the game in the third with a sacrifice fly that scored Trump, who walked with one out.

Minnesota State retook the lead in the sixth. McKenzie Paap led off with a double and scored on Amber Kral’s single.

Duncan was 2-for-3 to lead Harding, her seventh multi-hit game of the season.
