Harding University Arts And Life Performance Series

Harding University will host oboist Thomas Gallant along with the Tesla Quartet Thursday, Sept. 13, as the first performance of the 2018-19 Arts and Life Performance Series. The event begins at 7 p.m. in the Administration Auditorium.

Thomas Gallant is one of the world’s finest virtuoso solo and chamber music performers on the oboe. He has been praised by The New Yorker magazine as “a player who unites technical mastery with intentness, charm and wit.” Gallant is dedicated to performing neglected and contemporary works for the oboe and has given premieres of works for oboe and strings by Berio and Penderecki as well as Elliott Carter’s Oboe Quartet. He is a member of the trio Ensemble Schumann, and he is the artistic director of the chamber music group Frisson.

Gallant will be joined by the award-winning Tesla Quartet.

The Tesla Quartet was formed at The Juilliard School in 2008 and quickly established itself as one of the most promising young ensembles in New York. The International Review of Music lauded the group for their “superb capacity to find the inner heart of everything they play, regardless of era, style or technical demand.” The Tesla Quartet brings refinement and prowess to both new and established repertoire.

Gallant and the Tesla Quartet will present works by Bach, Mozart, Debussy and Elgar.
