Guilty With A Mental Illness

A new verdict could soon be offered to Arkansas juries.

Conway State Senator Jason Rapert filed SB191 which creates a guilty but with a mental illness verdict for juries to use.

The legislation would allow for a convicted felon to be sent to the Arkansas State Hospital until they’re either deemed mentally fit or are no longer a threat to society. They would then serve their remaining sentence in prison.

Rapert says 20 other states already have a similar law on the books.
