Flu Season Nearing End

As we near the end of the current flu season, the record number of flu-related deaths in Arkansas increased by just one last week, bringing the death toll from the current flu season to 223.

Since October 1st, over 53,500 positive influenza tests have been reported in Arkansas. Last week, 12 counties reported influenza cases, the majority of reports came from Benton, White, Polk, Craighead and Poinsett..

The average school absenteeism rate last week was 5.5 percent among public schools.

Of the deaths in Arkansas, 218 are among adults and five are pediatric deaths. The Centers for Disease Control has reported a total of 163 pediatric deaths nationwide this season.

Since October 1st, 59 state facilities including 47 nursing homes have reported influenza outbreaks.   MORE
