Today is Election Day for several state legislative seats and more.

Greenbrier residents are voting on a proposed sales tax increase aimed at financing Fire Department renovations and construction of a new park.

The special election is for a proposed half-cent increase. The measure would raise the local sales tax to 2.5 percent and would generate an estimated $500,000 in revenue annually.

Meanwhile, the State Senate District 29 primary which encompasses portions of Faulkner, Lonoke and Pulaski Counties as well as State Senate District 16 and State House District 83 are being voted on.

The Senate 29 seat became vacant when Senator Eddie Joe Williams resigned to serve as President Donald Trump’s representative to the Southern States Energy Board.

Democrat Steven McNeely is running unopposed in the primary. Republicans Jim Coy and Ricky Hill are vying for the Republican nomination.

McNeely will face the winner in a special general election May 22nd.      MORE
