The Arkansas State Police is now investigating a shooting incident involving a White County Deputy.

Sheriff’s officials say it happened around 7:00pm Wednesday evening in the 100 block of Meadow Lane in the Mount Vernon community.

Authorities say the deputy was approaching the front door of the home when the suspect opened fire striking the deputy at least once in the chest. Fortunately, he was wearing body armor and is okay.

The suspect was arrested.

The deputy has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation by the Arkansas State Police.

Upon completion of the investigation, Special Agents of the Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division will submit an investigative file to the 17th Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for consideration to determine whether use of deadly force by a law enforcement officer was justified as defined by state laws.
