The Batesville Police Department has asked for the assistance of the Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division after an officer involved shooting that occurred last night that left one of their own injured.

Around 7:40 PM Friday evening, a Batesville Police Department officer, 31-year old Michael Dickinson, responded to a residence located on Neeley Street in Batesville.

Dickinson made contact with Marvin Stair, 44, who immediately fired a gun at the officer striking him multiple times. Dickinson returned fire, retreated to cover, and called for assistance.

According to initial statements, as additional officers were arriving at the residence, Stair appeared from the front door of the home and pointed a rifle at the officers, leading police to fire on the suspect.

Stair was pronounced dead at the scene. His body will be turned-over to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory for examination.

Upon completion of the investigation, Arkansas State Police Special Agents assigned to the Criminal Investigation Division will present an investigative file to the prosecuting attorney for determination of whether use of deadly force was consistent with Arkansas laws.
