24 Years For Guilty Murder Plea

Benjamin Collier

Friday in Jackson County Circuit Court, 21-year old Benjamin Collier, of Newport, entered a plea of guilty to Murder in the 2nd degree as a result of charges stemming from an incident which occurred September 10, 2017 in Newport and resulted in the death of a 10 month old infant.

Evidence in the case including opinions of the State Medical Examiner’s Office indicated the infant died as the result of a closed head injury.

After responding to a 911 call on the date of the incident, police developed Collier as a suspect and he later confessed to the crime.

Collier was sentenced to 25 years in the Arkansas Department of Correction by Circuit Judge Harold S. Erwin.

The State was represented by Prosecuting Attorneys Henry H. Boyce and John D. Pettie.
