DOJ

Twenty defendants from White County have been charged in a conspiracy to commit wire fraud by allegedly obtaining unemployment insurance benefits to which they were not entitled in Arkansas and 15 other states.

Yesterday, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Arkansas Cody Hiland announced the unsealing of an indictment returned by a federal grand jury charging the 20 defendants, including Mark King, aka “Big Head,” the alleged ringleader of the conspiracy.

On Wednesday, the 53-year old King, of Judsonia, and two other defendants, 44-year old Alan Gentry, of Bald Knob, and 32-year old Benjamin Bradley, of Jonesboro were arrested.

The indictment alleges that the wire fraud conspiracy took place from June 2012 through August 2017 and resulted in a monetary loss exceeding $500,000.

Federal authorities, White County Sheriff’s Office, Judsonia Police Department, Searcy Police Department and Bald Knob Police Department started the investigation in the spring of 2016.     MORE
