Harding Sigma Nu Tau Honors Local Entrepreneur, Inducts Six New Members

The Harding University chapter of Sigma Nu Tau National Entrepreneurship Honor Society honored Searcy entrepreneur Mat Faulkner at its induction ceremony.

Faulkner is co-owner of Think Idea Studio with his wife, Shelley. Think is a regional agency specializing in branding, marketing and advertising. Both Harding alumni, the two recently completed a major renovation of the Robbins Sanford Mercantile building on the courthouse square in downtown Searcy which houses the agency’s offices as well as rental space for other local businesses. Faulkner is the driving force behind many community events and serves on the Searcy Chamber of Commerce where he leads a committee to improve economic development in White County.

Faulkner’s keynote consisted of a letter written to future entrepreneurs, filled with encouragement and reflections from a veteran many years down the line in the process of building his business. He stressed that students should determine for themselves what they will consider “successful” — in business, in marriage, in community, in parenthood, in whatever endeavor — rather than allowing culture to determine that for them. He reminded them they should set their boundaries accordingly.

Harding students inducted into Sigma Nu Tau were Margaret Claire Martin, Joshua Clemons, Michael Cruz, Troy Scott, Mia Perdue, and Mitchell Mayes. Drs. David Kee and Ken Olree, faculty advisers, and Alejandra Hernandez, chapter president, officiated at the ceremony.

Sigma Nu Tau is the only honor society in the United States founded specifically to “honor, promote, recognize and reward academic excellence in entrepreneurship and to encourage and recognize the practice of principled entrepreneurship.” The Paul R. Carter College of Business Administration chartered its chapter of Sigma Nu Tau last year.
